Canberra’s social housing waiting lists are a national disgrace

The ACT Labor Government (with the help of the ACT Greens in the past eight years) has been in power for more than 15 years and during that time have neglected thousands of people (including dependents) seeking a leg up on the “ladder of opportunity”.  The neglected, our most vulnerable and insecure are crying out for a home for themselves, their children, their loved ones or friends and then there are frail and elderly. All they want is someone who cares and who will roll up their sleeves and take up the challenge on their behalf.

The Community Alliance Party will take up this challenge and unveil our election commitment shortly.

In the meantime, ACT Labor and the ACT Greens have deserted these people and have cast them aside. And here lies the proof of this abhorrent national disgrace.  The following statistics will look you in the eye and there is no escape from feeling the neglect, impoverishment, bewilderment, frustration and despair of those who are waiting and those who have not even registered – the homeless.  It’s a scandal and an inquiry should be undertaken as a priority to alleviate human pain, uncertainty and suffering. The Nation’s Capital should not be one of the most expensive places to live.  Something is amiss – could it be land market or land price fixing manipulation!
